Lately We've Been Really Into Sex

Hello Friends,

As many of you know, we just finished twelve months of celibacy. Yes, for an entire year, we were paragons of Buddhist purity, chaste as medieval cherubs, and wholeheartedly uninformed about the wily ways of eros.

So it seems more than a little funny that we've found ourselves talking pretty much nonstop about sex of late.

Like, we did an entire Ten Percent Happier podcast episode on sex with Dan Harris (click here).

We did an evening on dharma and sexuality at San Francisco Insight (click here).

We're scheduled to teach an online half-day retreat on the topic Make Sex Good at the British Columbia Insight Meditation Society next weekend (click here).

Also, we've been talking more about sex in our 1:1 mentoring sessions. Bringing in sex and sexuality to our Monday Night Sangha (now on hiatus). And even thinking about writing our second book on the topic.

So what happened?

Well, one thing that happened was our first book caught up with us. We wrote How Not to Be a Hot Mess a year and a half ago. Way back then we made the offhand, impulsive, and highly unthought-through decision to write a chapter about sex.

But it turns out not many Buddhists write about sex. And so now folks have been asking . . .

Oh, and another thing: we started having sex again. And when we did, it was different. We came back to our sexuality, to our sensuality, to each other, more awake than we'd been before, more exploratory, and, in many ways, less bound up. So we've been experiencing for ourselves this new way of being together, and we tend to talk about with others whatever we happen to be experiencing ourselves.

At any rate, for whatever reasons, we're talking about sex these days. It’s a bit harrowing, to be honest. We feel continually out of our league. But also very much alive and energized by the dialogue.

So if you want to join the conversation, feel free to come next weekend, or listen to one of those links up top, or do some mentoring with us, or just reply to this post.

We're sending lots of good wishes your way,
Craig
