Resilience in the New Year—Buddhist Perspectives on Facing Adversity:
An Evening Talk with nico hase
Wednesday, January 29th, 2025
5-6:30 pm pacific time
online via Zoom
In times of challenge, an ancient Zen saying reminds us: "Nine times knocked down, ten times get up." But what makes this resilience possible? Drawing from Buddhist wisdom and contemporary insights, this evening teaching explores how we can build genuine resilience in an age of isolation and fragility.
Through stories from monastic life and everyday experience, we will examine common misconceptions about resilience and offer a more nuanced approach. Moving beyond spiritual bypassing and hyper-individualism, we'll discover how direct meditation training, community support, and practical resources can help us meet life's difficulties with greater steadiness and grace.
Together, we’ll weave Buddhist teachings, meditation practices, and real-world applications to show how resilience isn't about becoming invulnerable, but about creating the conditions that allow us to keep getting up when we fall. Perfect for anyone seeking to cultivate sustainable resilience in challenging times, this talk offers both practical wisdom and a deeper understanding of how we can support each other on the path.
